This study titled user education or library skills and students utilization of library resources in university libraries in South-South, Nigeria sought to find out whether user education variables of orientation of new students, and instructions on bibliographic tools, influence the students use of library information resources in university libraries in the South-South of the country. Literature was reviewed according to the variables of the study. An ex-post design was adopted for the study. Using the stratified random and accidental sampling techniques, a sample of 1,995 undergraduates was drawn for the study. A structured questionnaire titled User Education and Students’ Utilization of Library Resource (UESULR) was developed for data collection to achieve the purpose of this study. Two hypotheses were postulated and tested with the use of ANOVA, statistical methods at .05 level of significance. Two null hypotheses were rejected which imply that user education in the variables of orientation of new students, instruction on bibliographic tools, influence students’ utilization of library information resources. The study concluded that user education is important for students in universities in South-South Nigeria and that the skills taught is necessary for accessing information, and for retrieval propose. The study recommended among others that University libraries should be established with an up-to-date information resources and relevant services as a criteria for the approval of any university programme.
